Café Bassam is a gem for anyone seeking a true coffeehouse experience. Established in 1991, it boasts a cozy, vintage atmosphere with an antique lounge perfect for relaxing, though the space can feel a bit tight at times. They offer more than just coffee, with wine, beer, and even cigars available, adding a unique touch to the experience. Their Mexican Mocha is a standout, rich with spices and flavor, making it highly recommended for any coffee enthusiast. They also serve exceptional desserts, including a phenomenal cheesecake, though their menu is limited to pastries rather than full meals. A large selection of teas is also available, promising a delightful reason to return. I also have to give a shoutout to the single barista managing it all--taking orders, brewing coffee, and maintaining friendly connections with the guests. Open late, Café Bassam caters to those in need of a late-night fix, though parking on Fifth Avenue can be a challenge unless you visit early or find a nearby lot. This is a place to savor and enjoy without rushing, making it a must-visit for coffee lovers and those looking for a unique, relaxing spot in San Diego. Overall: 4.8/5

I live in La Costa but when I come to "town" I make an effort to enjoy this European old world charm with beautiful music that likely appeals more to Europeans, Latinos ( like myself) and def on the more mature end. Aside from the amazing array of teas and coffees their in house made brioche ( either with or without powered sugar) is truly unique and worth every Lucious carb calorie. The owner, aptly named Bassam is quite elegant and very sweet . He clearly has the respect and admiration of many loyal regulars. And wears the classiest hats and a warm smile.

The thing I love most about this place is its true individuality. Step inside, it's like a vintage Victorian museum, super unique and artsy. There's a huge selection of tea with tasty and yummy desserts. Coffee and drink options are unique and delicious. Nice and friendly environment where you can take a book and enjoy a beautiful afternoon.

Cafe Bassam in Bankers Hill is an absolute gem and well worth the hour-long round trip drive, even for someone who dislikes driving. The coffee, desserts, and variety of other menu items are consistently delicious. This cafe is a rare find in San Diego, capturing the spirit of a true European cafe, with an ambiance and selection that takes me right back to my travels abroad. Cafe Bassam boasts an impressive variety of teas, a wine room, coffee bar, gourmet food, and even cigars for those who enjoy them. I first became a fan when I worked downtown and would stop by their original Gaslamp location, but I love the new spot in Bankers Hill even more. Bassam's unique taste and personal style make the cafe feel warm and welcoming, and he's a gracious host who makes each customer feel appreciated. It's a must-visit spot that brings a touch of Europe to San Diego.

This was a spot on my San Diego cafe passport and was excited to try it out since I love Vietnamese iced coffee and that was the recommended beverage!! The vibe inside gives old book store but in the best way, I can see it getting busy with people doing work and just sitting and chatting on the weekends The initial color threw me off but this is definitely one of the best Vietnamese iced coffees i have ever had!! I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be returning
